From Dreams to Reality: How Glo’s Festival of Joy Transformed Lives in Ibadan

By Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi

For Mr. Adeola Olatayo Silas, a quantity surveyor, December 2024 will forever be etched in his heart as the day an ordinary morning turned into an unforgettable moment of pure joy. Standing before a crowd of excited onlookers in Ibadan, he gazed in disbelief at the sleek Kia Picanto car presented to him by telecommunications giant Globacom. “Wow, wow!” he kept exclaiming, struggling to find the right words.

Silas had always admired Globacom’s commitment to rewarding customers, but never in his wildest dreams did he think he would be one of the lucky winners in the company’s ongoing *Festival of Joy* promo. “I have always been a loyal Glo user, and I kept hoping that one day, I would be among those who win. Today, my dream has become a reality,” he said, his voice thick with emotion.

He was not alone in this moment of unexpected fortune. Seun Okeowo, a media practitioner and the second car winner of the day, had nurtured a similar hope. When his name was announced, he was overwhelmed. “I had always believed I could win, but hearing my name and seeing this car before me is a different kind of happiness. I pray that God will continue to bless Globacom for spreading joy across Nigeria,” he said.

Beyond the grand prize of brand-new cars, Globacom’s Festival of Joy extended its reach to many others, empowering individuals and families with useful household and business equipment.

Pastor Oluwole Abayomi, a resident of Akure, was one of the lucky winners of a power generator. But when he first received the call from Glo, he hesitated. “I didn’t believe it at first. My brother even warned me that it might be a setup to kidnap me,” he admitted with a chuckle. It was only after verifying the information that he realized his fortune was real. Overwhelmed with gratitude, he prayed for Globacom’s continued success.

Oluwole Babatunde Olusegun, a teacher based in Ibadan, left the event with a sewing machine, a prize that he sees as an investment in his family’s future. “This will be useful for my wife and children, as they will now learn fashion designing. Who knows? The next time, I might win a car!” he said optimistically.

For Waheed Azeez, a trailer driver, the grinding machine he won was more than just a piece of equipment—it was an opportunity for his family. “This is going straight to my wife. She will use it to run a milling business,” he explained, his face beaming with satisfaction.

The event was not just about the prizes; it was a celebration of corporate generosity. The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Lawal, commended Globacom for its unwavering commitment to Nigerians. “I have witnessed Glo’s kindness many times. This company is not just attracting customers but also giving back in ways that truly change lives,” he said.

His sentiments were echoed by Mr. Abdulazak Ande, Globacom’s Head of Business (West), who urged both new and existing subscribers to participate in the Festival of Joy promo by dialing *611# and keeping their lines recharged. “We believe in rewarding loyalty, and this promo is our way of saying thank you to our customers,” he explained.

The event drew an impressive crowd, including representatives from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and a host of Nigerian celebrities such as comedian Seyi Law, Nollywood stars Odunlade Adekola, Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi, and content creator Kiekie.

As the winners drove off with their prizes, the excitement lingered in the air. For some, it was proof that good things still happen, that dreams can turn into reality. For others, like Oluwole Babatunde Olusegun, it was motivation to keep trying, to keep believing.

And as Globacom continues to spread joy across the nation, one thing is certain—many more lives will be touched, many more dreams will come true.
