FG Approves International Status for Victor Attah Airport, Uyo
The Federal Government has approved the designation of the Victor Attah Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as a full-fledged international airport. The approval follows a request by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, who met earlier today with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
According to the minister, the decision was taken after a review of the airport’s significant infrastructural upgrades and its strategic importance to regional aviation. Keyamo noted that the airport now boasts a massively upgraded terminal building, a nearly completed Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, and an international-standard runway suitable for long-haul flights.
He added that the airport’s location positions it as a key gateway for Central and East Africa, further justifying the move to expand its operational capacity.
In the coming months, the Federal Government will collaborate with relevant agencies—including Customs, Immigration, NDLEA, Quarantine Services, and the Police—to ensure all operational frameworks are put in place ahead of the commencement of international flights from the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo.
The approval marks a major milestone in Akwa Ibom State’s aviation development drive and is expected to boost regional connectivity, tourism, and economic activity.
