Boats Capsize in Lagos Lagoon, Leaving Passengers Injured and Several Missing

The Lagos Police Command has reported that On October 7, 2024, at approximately 7:00 PM, a distress call was received at Ilashe Police Division reporting a collision between two unregistered passenger boats in the middle of the lagoon at Imore Town. Both boats, carrying 16 passengers each, capsized following the collision, causing passengers and goods to be submerged in the water.

In response, teams of conventional and marine police, local divers, and emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene. Eleven passengers were rescued with injuries and were immediately transported to the Naval Hospital at Navy Town, Alakija, for medical treatment. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing to recover the bodies of the remaining passengers.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
