Attempted Tricycle Theft by Physically Challenged Suspects Foiled, Two Arrested
Two suspects were arrested after an attempt to snatch a tricycle from a rider living with disabilities in the Oyingbo area of Lagos. The incident, which occurred on the evening of 9th October, was reported at Denton Police Station the following day.
According to the complainant, a tricycle rider who is also living with disabilities , he was approached by three men living with disabilities at Boson Roundabout, Oyingbo. The trio, identified as Mande Bello (30), Samsudeen Usman (23), and an individual known only as Gazali, requested a ride to General Pay Aja. Initially, they asked to be dropped off at the Third Mainland Bridge intersection, a request the rider hesitated to honor. However, when he eventually attempted to comply, the situation took a dangerous turn.
At the bridge intersection, Mande Bello reportedly pulled out a cable wire in an attempt to strangle the rider. A struggle ensued, but the complainant managed to overpower the suspects and quickly turned back towards Okobaba. While Gazali managed to escape, the rider successfully restrained Bello and Usman, leading to their eventual arrest.
Police officers at Denton Station acted swiftly on the case, recording the statements of the two suspects. Preliminary investigations revealed that the trio are part of a group specializing in tricycle theft, targeting unsuspecting riders in the state.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Gazali, the third suspect, who remains at large. Meanwhile, authorities have assured the public that further investigations are in progress to ensure justice is served.
