IKODASS INTRODUCES COMMUNITY DAY WITH LAWYERS AT 35TH IKORODU-OGA FESTIVAL

Initiative under Alhaji Olayiwola’s leadership to promote legal awareness and improve access to justice

The Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS) has introduced a Community Day with Lawyers as part of activities marking the 35th Ikorodu-Oga Festival, providing residents with an opportunity to seek legal guidance and better understand their rights.

The programme, themed “Mo Gbe Ejo Mi De,” is scheduled for Friday, November 20, 2026, at Ikorodu Town Hall, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The initiative, described as the first of its kind within the festival’s programme, is designed to bring legal practitioners closer to residents through community-based legal consultations and public enlightenment.

Under the leadership of IKODASS Chairman, Alhaji Kolawole Fatal Olayiwola, the initiative reflects a people-oriented approach to community development, extending the festival’s impact beyond cultural celebration to practical interventions that address everyday challenges.

Residents are expected to have opportunities to seek guidance on issues including tenancy, property ownership, inheritance, family disputes, employment, business transactions and contractual disagreements, subject to the scope of services provided by participating lawyers.

The programme is also expected to promote early legal intervention, peaceful dispute resolution and greater awareness of lawful remedies, particularly among residents who may face financial or informational barriers to accessing professional legal advice.

Olayiwola and the IKODASS leadership deserve commendation for creating a platform that connects cultural heritage with public service. By encouraging lawyers to contribute their expertise to community welfare, the initiative highlights the role of professional volunteerism in building a more informed and responsible society.

The programme also offers members of the legal profession an opportunity to give back through public education and accessible legal guidance, while strengthening engagement between practitioners and the communities they serve.

The Community Day with Lawyers aligns with the theme of the 35th Ikorodu-Oga Festival, “Celebrating Heritage, Inspiring Sustainable Development,” demonstrating how traditional institutions can support initiatives that deliver tangible social benefits.

If effectively implemented, the programme could provide a model for integrating legal awareness and volunteer professional services into community festivals across Lagos State and beyond.

Residents are encouraged to follow official IKODASS announcements for details on participation, registration and the specific legal services available.
