Valentine’s Day Reflection: ‘Dating Is a Fact-Finding Mission,’ Says Dr. Kunle Hamilton (Video)

As the world celebrates Valentine’s Day—a time of love, romance, and heartfelt gestures—Dr. Kunle Hamilton offers a thought-provoking perspective on relationships, urging singles and young people to view dating as a fact-finding mission rather than a mere pursuit of passion.

Speaking at a special pre-Valentine edition of Bible study, Dr. Hamilton addressed millennials and Gen Z on the realities of modern relationships, challenging the popular notion that love alone sustains marriage.

See video:

“If you cannot handle your partner’s phone without them feeling guilty, and they cannot handle yours without guilt, that is what you will have to live with in marriage,” he stated.

According to him, dating should be intentional, with each partner seeking to discover essential truths about the other before making a lifelong commitment.

The Five Stages of Relationships

Dr. Hamilton outlined five key stages of relationships that lead to marriage:

1. Friendship – The foundation of every lasting marriage.

2. Dating– A period of discovery and assessment.

3. Courtship– A deeper level of commitment leading to marriage.

4. Wedding– A ceremonial milestone, not the destination.

5. Marriage– The real journey that requires continuous effort.

“Anybody who marries a stranger will live to regret it,”Dr. warned, emphasizing that friendship is the most important ingredient in marriage.

For many, Valentine’s Day is filled with flowers, chocolates, and grand romantic gestures, but Dr. Hamilton cautioned against viewing marriage as the ultimate source of happiness.

“People think marriage is a seal that guarantees happiness—it does not, unless you marry right,”he said.

His message challenges the fast-paced, social media-driven dating culture of today’s young generation, where emotions often take precedence over careful evaluation. he urged singles to take their time, build friendships, and ensure they truly know the person they are committing to.

As couples exchange gifts and sweet words this Valentine’s Day, Dr. Hamilton’s message serves as a reminder: Love is not enough—understanding, friendship, and compatibility are the real keys to a lasting relationship.
