Societal Concerns Organization joins Nigerians in mourning the tragic death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a distinguished officer who devoted the best years of his life to defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our nation.
His painful demise while in captivity raises difficult but necessary questions about the safety and welfare of those who have dedicated their lives to protecting others. Major General Abubakar served with honour, courage, and unwavering commitment, yet his passing reminds us that insecurity remains a threat to both civilians and those who once stood at the forefront of our nation’s defence.
As an organization that has consistently campaigned against the killing of security personnel through advocacy initiatives such as the “Protect Our Protectors, Preserving Our Unity” campaign, Societal Concerns believes that every fallen officer deserves not only our condolences but meaningful action towards improving security, intelligence gathering, and support systems for serving and retired personnel.
The story of General Rabe Abubakar is not merely the story of one man; it is a reflection of the sacrifices made daily by countless security officers across Nigeria. His death should challenge all stakeholders to renew efforts toward creating a safer nation where those who defend the people are themselves protected.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his service to Nigeria never be forgotten.
Signed:
Ambassador Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi
