Sanwo-Olu Excited as Adiyan Water Project Nears Completion

…Governor Says It Will Supply 70 Million Gallons of Water Per Day

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the Adiyan Water Works Phase II project, which is set to supply 70 million gallons of water per day upon completion.

During a working visit to the project site on Wednesday, the governor, alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and other government officials, inspected ongoing civil works for over two hours. He revealed that the project is at 80% completion and assured Lagosians that it will be delivered within the tenure of his administration.

Sanwo-Olu described the project as a critical component of his government’s commitment to improving water supply and enhancing the quality of life for Lagos residents.

“I think the main pride for us is what we have seen here—the possibility of a timely completion of what we started. Adiyan II is meant to produce 70 million gallons per day, and you can see from the working trip we had today that it is about 80% completed.

“The electromechanical work, which has to do with the pump, is already in place, and about 70 to 75% of the equipment is on site. The contractors are working on three major components, and they have assured us that in the next 10 to 12 months, this whole place will be fully operational. It will be a project Lagosians will be proud of,” the governor stated.

Sanwo-Olu further emphasized the importance of potable water to urban living standards, adding that the completion of Adiyan Water Works Phase II will significantly impact the socio-economic development of the state.

He also commended residents of the host community for their cooperation and acknowledged the extensive underground pipeline work, which extends to Akute, Ogun State, where water will be sourced from the Ogun River before being processed at Adiyan.

“The locals are as happy as we are, and you can see that from the warm reception we received. Compensation has been duly paid by both the Lagos and Ogun State governments. However, we still have work to do in terms of transmission and expanding capacity,” he added.

Speaking on the project, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring residents have access to adequate pipe-borne water. He noted that the Adiyan Water Works aligns with the state’s long-term vision for sustainable water infrastructure.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Water Corporation, Engr. Mukhtaar Tijani, also appreciated the government’s dedication to the project and assured that the contractor would complete the remaining work within the stipulated timeline.

The completion of Adiyan Water Works Phase II is expected to significantly enhance water supply across Lagos, reinforcing the state government’s vision for a more sustainable and livable city.
