Thousands Gather at Tafawa Balewa Square for Prayer and Endorsement Rally Ahead of 2027 Elections

Thousands of supporters and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday converged at Tafawa Balewa Square in a massive show of solidarity, prayers, and political support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The event, which transformed the historic venue into a sea of party faithful, was described by supporters as the fulfillment of months of political preparation and grassroots mobilization within the party structure across Lagos State.

The gathering featured special interfaith prayer sessions led by religious leaders who offered prayers for peace, unity, and continued progress in Nigeria.

Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, opened the Christian prayer session with prayers for peace in Nigeria and divine wisdom for President Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Hamzat, and other political leaders.

In the Muslim session, Alfa Rahman Lawal led prayers for the success of President Tinubu’s administration and also prayed for guidance and greater heights for Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat in his political aspirations.

Addressing party supporters at the rally, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged APC members and followers to remain united and come out en masse during the 2027 elections to vote for President Tinubu and Deputy Governor Hamzat, stressing that continuity would ensure the sustenance of ongoing developmental projects and governance reforms in Lagos and across Nigeria.

The governor noted that the current administration has laid important foundations for growth and stability, adding that continuity in leadership would further consolidate the achievements already recorded.

Deputy Governor Hamzat, while addressing the crowd, expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for what he described as resilience, dedication, and diligence in steering the affairs of the nation despite prevailing challenges. He also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for laying a strong developmental foundation in Lagos State, stating that the administration has created structures that future leadership can build upon for greater progress.

The event also became a platform for civic engagement as Nigerians were encouraged to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them participate fully in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 elections.

The endorsement rally further reflected the growing support within the Lagos APC structure for President Tinubu’s second-term bid and the emergence of Deputy Governor Hamzat as a major political figure ahead of the next governorship race in the state.
