Re-Betta Edu Fingered In N3bn NSIPA Fraud Scandal; A Tissue of Lies, Spurious Allegation To Divert Anti-Graft Agency’s Attention

The Honourable Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, has categorically refuted the recent allegations linking her to a N3 billion fraud scandal involving the National Social Investment Programme Agency, NSIPA. In a press release issued today, the Minister dismissed the claims as baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish her hard-earned reputation.

According to Dr. Betta Edu, these allegations appear to be the work of fifth columnists seeking to divert attention from the ongoing investigations into the NSIPA scandal by the anti-graft agency. The Minister emphasizes that there is no substance in the online publications and deems them unworthy of a response. However, in light of the prevalence of fake news, she finds it necessary to set the record straight.

Dr. Betta Edu asserts that she has never requested funds nor withdrawn any amount, let alone N3 billion, from the NSIPA’s coffers during her tenure as Minister. The Verification of the National Social Register (NSR), as mentioned in the publications, was approved by both the President and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to expand the NSR and enhance its integrity.

The Minister further clarifies that all programs initiated under her leadership, such as the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) and Grants for Vulnerable Groups (GVG), have received approval from the President. Contrary to the allegations, she insists that no funds were withdrawn without due diligence and painstaking approval from the appropriate authorities.

Dr. Betta Edu distances herself from the ongoing investigations and suspension of NSIPA’s leadership, emphasizing that she played no role in the current situation. She reiterates her commitment to the responsibility of providing succor to vulnerable Nigerians and achieving the targets set in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister calls on the media, both online and conventional, to refrain from using her name to divert attention from the ongoing investigations. She urges the public to disregard the allegations and assures that her focus remains on delivering the mandated programs to uplift millions out of poverty.
