Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority Warns Private Jet Owners: Compliance with Commercial Operations Crucial
In a recent announcement, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) issued a stern warning to private jet owners involved in commercial services, stressing that failure to comply could result in license revocation. Chris Najomo, the acting Director-General of NCAA, delivered this message during the unveiling of the agency’s 2024 projects in Lagos.

This caution follows safety concerns and regulatory lapses within the private aviation sector, notably highlighted by a November incident where a private jet crash-landed en route to Ibadan. The National Safety Investigation Bureau revealed that the operator, Flints Aero Services Limited, was authorized for a non-commercial flight, raising questions about regulatory adherence.
Najomo underscored the importance for private jet operators engaged in commercial or charter services to obtain the appropriate license, emphasizing the regulatory framework. Only holders of an Air Transport License and airline operating permit with a valid air operator certificate are authorized for charter operations.
To address non-compliance, the NCAA plans to increase surveillance on private jets operating beyond their designated scope. Sting operations will be conducted to ensure operators without a proper Air Operator Certificate cease commercial operations.
The Director-General reaffirmed the NCAA’s commitment to simplifying certification and licensing processes to enhance ease of doing business in the aviation sector. This move aims to bolster safety standards and regulatory compliance within the private jet sector, ensuring all operators adhere to prescribed guidelines for commercial operations.
