The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, has issued a strong warning to the general public concerning a fraudulent Facebook account created in the name of the Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed.
In a press release dated Friday, June 6, 2025, with reference number MFA/PR/2025/44, the Ministry described the account as the handiwork of unscrupulous elements who are using the platform to spread false information, promise non-existent contract awards, request various forms of assistance, and entice unsuspecting individuals with offers of juicy rewards.
“The Ministry categorically disassociates itself from the unwarranted impersonation and warns the general public to disregard any communication from the fake account, as it is not an official channel of the Ministry,” the statement reads.
The Ministry further emphasized that Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed does not operate or own any social media account, and advised members of the public to refrain from interacting with anyone claiming to be him or offering deals under his name.
To address the situation, the Ministry announced that it is currently working closely with relevant security agencies and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to track, investigate, and permanently shut down the fraudulent account.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, integrity, and the protection of citizens from all forms of cyber fraud and malicious online activity.
