Initially named after the late Abubakar Imam by the Federal Government as part of a series of renamings involving 15 airports across the country, the Minna Airport’s transformation reflects a shift in recognition towards the prominent political figure.

The announcement was made by the state Commissioner for Information, Binta Mamman, during a media briefing at the Government House, Minna. Mamman outlined the preparations for President Tinubu’s visit to inaugurate the airport and unveil mechanized farming implements.

The remodelling of the airport, originally a federal project, was completed under the auspices of the state government due to delays in execution. The revamped terminal at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport is poised to alleviate pressure on the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, considering its strategic proximity to the nation’s capital.

Aminu Takuma, the state Commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, emphasized the renaming as a gesture of appreciation for President Tinubu’s support to the state. He clarified that the decision was within the Federal Government’s prerogative, given its authority over airport naming conventions.

Additionally, Musa Salihu, the Commissioner for Agriculture, unveiled state-of-the-art agricultural equipment procured to bolster food security initiatives. Tractors, power tillers, planters, and harvesters assembled at the airport will demonstrate irrigation farming, highlighting the potential of the Airport City Free Agro Processing Zone.

With these developments and the concerted efforts of Governor Mohammed Bago’s administration, Niger State aims to become Nigeria’s agricultural hub, leveraging modern infrastructure and innovative farming practices to drive economic growth and food sufficiency.
