FCID Intercepts Shipment Containing 300 Rounds of Ammunition and Contraband, Arrests Five
The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, has intercepted a major consignment containing 300 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and various contraband items, leading to the arrest of five suspects.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives arrested the driver, Nelson Peretei, and conducted a detailed search of the container in the presence of a clearing agent and alleged receivers. The inspection uncovered ammunition concealed inside a Nissan Frontier pickup, alongside two Toyota Sienna vans, one SCION XA vehicle, foreign rice, used clothing (Okirika), vegetable oil, and assorted household goods.
Investigations traced the shipment to a U.S.-based sender, Mrs. Maria Adeyemi, who failed to declare the ammunition and contraband in the bill of lading. Further inquiry revealed that a self-proclaimed retired U.S. Marine Colonel, Sunny Nwadiri, attempted to claim ownership of the ammunition through an intermediary without providing verifiable identity documents.
Preliminary findings showed that the illegal items were strategically hidden among legitimate goods in a deliberate attempt to evade port security checks.
FCID is deepening investigations into possible links to arms-trafficking networks and is working with the Nigeria Customs Service and the Department of State Services (DSS) to ensure full prosecution under the Firearms Act and other relevant laws.
AIG Margaret Agebe Ochalla reaffirmed the FCID’s commitment to combating illicit arms movements, disrupting smuggling networks, and safeguarding national security.
