Governor Zulum Meets with Comptroller General of Customs, Strengthens Partnership on Border Security and Trade

Borno State Governor Seeks Enhanced Collaboration with Nigeria Customs Service to Tackle Cross-Border Challenges

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has reinforced the state’s commitment to bolstering border security and facilitating trade through a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Customs Service.

 During his visit to the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on Friday, August 16, 2024, Governor Zulum expressed his profound gratitude for the continuous support provided by the Customs Service in addressing the unique challenges faced by Borno State.

Governor Zulum highlighted the strategic significance of Borno State, which borders Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, making it a critical point for both security and trade. He emphasized the necessity for a robust collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service to ensure the safety and economic prosperity of the region.

 “Borno’s borders are vital to Nigeria’s security and trade interests. We deeply appreciate the Nigeria Customs Service’s dedication and assistance, and we are eager to further strengthen our partnership to secure our state and facilitate legitimate commerce,” Governor Zulum remarked.

In response, Comptroller General Adeniyi expressed his appreciation for the Governor’s visit and reaffirmed the Customs Service’s unwavering commitment to supporting Borno State. “We value the strong cooperation we have with Borno State in executing our core responsibilities. The Nigeria Customs Service remains dedicated to enhancing trade facilitation while ensuring the protection of our borders,” CGC Adeniyi stated.

The meeting concluded with Governor Zulum extending a formal invitation to CGC Adeniyi to visit Borno State, emphasizing the importance of deepening the existing partnership to tackle the complex challenges at the state’s borders.
