As Lagos State prepares for the highly anticipated Local Government and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu** has issued a heartfelt appeal to all eligible voters across the state to participate actively and peacefully in the democratic exercise.

In an official statement released from the Office of the Governor on Friday, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the crucial role of local governments as the closest tier of governance to the people, directly responsible for grassroots development, essential services, and community representation.

“This election is not just a constitutional process,” the Governor noted. “It is a powerful expression of your voice and your civic responsibility. It is your right.”

The Governor urged residents to come out en masse to vote for their preferred candidates chairmanship and councillorship aspirants—who will drive meaningful development and service delivery at the community level. He highlighted that democratic participation at the grassroots is essential to building stronger, more accountable governance in Lagos.

To guarantee a safe and credible electoral process, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured Lagosians that security agencies have been strategically deployed across all polling units and communities. He affirmed that these officials would protect voters, election materials, and ensure orderliness throughout the exercise.

“I have directed security agencies to ensure the protection of voters and electoral officials,”he said. “The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has also confirmed their readiness for a smooth and transparent election.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu also issued a call for peaceful conduct from all political stakeholders, party agents, and candidates, urging them to uphold the principles of fairness, decorum, and the rule of law.

Special attention was drawn to the role of the youth, whom the Governor advised to resist any temptation to engage in violence or political thuggery. Instead, he encouraged them to act as ambassadors of peace and democratic integrity.

*“Let us show the world once again that Lagos stands for peace, progress, and participatory governance,” Sanwo-Olu declared.

The Governor concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections that reflect the true will of Lagosians, assuring residents that Lagos will continue to set the pace for democratic excellence in Nigeria.
