Fatal Accident Claims Life on CMS Bridge, Lagos Island – LASTMA Urges Caution
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported a fatal accident that occurred early this morning, involving a containerized truck and a commercial Suzuki mini vehicle on the CMS Bridge, Lagos Island. The tragic incident, which took place at around 6:15 a.m. near UBA, as the vehicles were descending towards Apongbon Bridge, claimed the life of the truck driver.
According to the report sent to Societal Concerns Media from LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver had pulled over to address a mechanical issue when the Suzuki mini vehicle, allegedly speeding, collided with him. The impact resulted in his immediate death, while a female passenger in the mini vehicle sustained severe eye injuries. She was swiftly transported to General Hospital, Odan, for emergency medical care.
LASTMA officers, in collaboration with the Ebute-Ero Police Division, LASEMA Response Unit, and LASMABUS, promptly responded to the accident. They managed the scene, ensuring the body was removed and normal traffic flow was restored.
Expressing deep sympathy for the family of the deceased, LASTMA also used the opportunity to urge motorists to be more vigilant and strictly adhere to traffic regulations, particularly in congested areas where accidents are more likely to occur. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to road safety, with the goal of preventing future tragedies of this nature.
