AMB. OLUWAYOMI OLUWAPELUMI CALLS FOR YOUTH RE-ORIENTATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ON INTERNATIONAL DAY OF EDUCATION

As the world marks the 2025 International Day of Education, Ambassador Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi has highlighted the critical role of education in shaping a progressive society while urging greater efforts to reorient Nigerian youth towards productive engagement and community development.

In her message commemorating the day, Amb. Oluwapelumi expressed concern over the diminishing level of interest and awareness among young Nigerians regarding the value of education and its transformative potential.

“Having taken time to evaluate public reactions and conversations surrounding this day, it is disheartening to note the misplaced priorities of many Nigerian youths,” he observed. “The growing trend of creating content without context on social media is symptomatic of a deeper issue—a lack of direction and purpose. This calls for immediate action.”

Amb. Oluwapelumi urged the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to intensify efforts in reforming and reorienting the youth toward a better understanding of their role in national development.

“The National Orientation Agency must return to the drawing board and design impactful programs that instill civic values, purpose, and a sense of community in young citizens. This reorientation is vital for the progress of our nation,” she said.

Amb. Oluwapelumi also shared insights into the initiatives led by his organization, Societal Concerns, which focus on fostering educational awareness and community development.

“In our capacity, we have initiated projects that deliver tangible results. This is what we believe in, this is what we do, and this is why we are called Societal Concerns. We remain committed to creating opportunities for young Nigerians to realize their potential and contribute meaningfully to society,” he emphasized.

Reaffirming the importance of education, Amb. Oluwapelumi called on stakeholders—government, private sector, and civil society—to prioritize educational reforms that bridge gaps, empower youth, and prepare the next generation for global opportunities.

“Education is more than a fundamental right—it is a tool for empowerment and a catalyst for change. As we celebrate this International Day of Education, let us rededicate ourselves to building an informed, skilled, and visionary youth population that will drive Nigeria forward,” She concluded.
