The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism through structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, following recent precision airstrikes on terrorist targets in the North-West region of the country.
In a press release issued on Friday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government confirmed that the strikes were a product of ongoing intelligence collaboration and strategic coordination between Nigeria and its partners, aimed at addressing the persistent threat of terrorism and violent extremism.
According to the Ministry, the Nigeria–United States security cooperation aligns with established international practices and bilateral understandings, encompassing intelligence sharing and other forms of support conducted in accordance with international law and with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The Federal Government emphasized that all counter-terrorism operations are guided by the protection of civilian lives, the preservation of national unity, and the respect for the rights and dignity of all Nigerians, regardless of faith or ethnicity. It stressed that terrorist violence—whether targeted at Christians, Muslims, or other communities—remains a direct assault on Nigeria’s core values and a threat to international peace and security.
The Ministry further disclosed that Nigeria continues to work closely with its partners through established diplomatic and security channels to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their sources of financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border security threats.
