Second Edition of Gbadebo’s Cup 2024 Unites Mile 12 Youths through Football
The highly anticipated second edition of the Gbadebo’s Cup 2024, a grassroots football competition, has kicked off in Mile 12, Lagos. At Orita Fogo . Organized by the community’s youths, the tournament celebrates Comrade Gbadebo Alex Omotehinse, a renowned human rights activist and advocate for peace, affectionately known as “Hyklass.”
The competition, inaugurated last year with eight teams, has expanded to 12 participating teams, reflecting its growing popularity and unity mission. This year, teams from outside Mile 12 have joined the event, further cementing its reputation as a symbol of harmony and collaboration in the area.
Scheduled to culminate on Christmas Day, December 25, the final match coincides with Comrade Alex’s birthday and that of Ismaila Kanu, another prominent figure in the community. The tournament seeks to foster peace and reconciliation among warring factions in Mile 12, aligning with Comrade Alex’s enduring commitment to unity and progress in the region.

The opening match, held on December 14 at the Ketu Special Children Centre Playground, saw Team Atlantic Warriors triumph over Mari FC with an impressive 5-0 victory in a thrilling 5-a-side encounter.
Organizers have called on all Mile 12 youths to embrace peace and support the tournament’s vision: “Mile 12 Shall Be Great Again.”
