Wema Bank Appoints New Deputy Managing Director, Executive Director

Wema Bank, a leader in Nigeria’s banking innovation and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, has announced key leadership appointments to sustain its growth trajectory. The Board has approved the appointment of Mr. Oluwole Ajimisinmi as the new Deputy Managing Director and Mr. Olukayode Bakare as an Executive Director. Both appointments will take effect from December 1, 2024.

These changes follow the planned retirement of Mr. Oluwole Akinleye, the current Deputy Managing Director, who will exit the bank on November 30, 2024. Mr. Akinleye has been a cornerstone of Wema Bank’s success, contributing significantly to its transformation and growth over the past decade. His leadership spanned various strategic roles, including the oversight of the Southwest Business, Corporate Banking Division, Customer Experience Management, and Corporate Sustainability.

In recognizing his impactful service, the Board of Directors commended Mr. Akinleye’s dedication and strategic foresight, which have been instrumental in shaping the bank’s achievements. They expressed their gratitude for his contributions and wished him success in his future endeavors.

As part of its succession planning, Wema Bank has appointed Mr. Oluwole Ajimisinmi as Deputy Managing Director. A seasoned professional, Mr. Ajimisinmi joined the bank in 2009 as Company Secretary/Legal Adviser and became an Executive Director in 2020. His extensive experience in corporate governance and strategic leadership makes him well-equipped to lead the bank into its next chapter of growth and innovation.

Additionally, Mr. Olukayode Bakare will take on the role of Executive Director. An accomplished expert in finance and treasury, Mr. Bakare has been pivotal in driving the bank’s Treasury, Wholesale Funding, and Global Trade Business. His appointment reflects the bank’s commitment to enhancing its capacity for delivering innovative financial solutions.

The Board of Directors emphasized that these appointments align with Wema Bank’s strategy of building a future-ready leadership team. The bank expressed confidence in the ability of Mr. Ajimisinmi and Mr. Bakare to propel Wema Bank to greater heights through their expertise, passion, and vision.

Wema Bank reaffirmed its dedication to providing cutting-edge banking solutions through technology and innovation. With these leadership changes, the bank aims to strengthen its position as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s financial sector while delivering exceptional value to its stakeholders.
