The Member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, has extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the tragic building collapse at Equal Rights Restaurants and Bars in Ojodu, Lagos, which claimed at least seven lives and left several others injured or trapped.

In an official statement released on Saturday, Hon. Faleke described the incident as a devastating loss that has plunged the Ojodu community into mourning.

“This is a heartbreaking incident that has thrown our community into mourning. My thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones, and I extend my heartfelt condolences to them during this incredibly painful time,” he said.

The three-storey building, which collapsed in the early hours of Saturday, sent panic across the neighborhood, prompting swift response from Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other rescue teams. Their efforts have been commended by Faleke, who praised their round-the-clock commitment to saving lives.

“I commend the tireless efforts of LASEMA and all first responders who have been working round the clock to rescue those still trapped,” he stated. “I urge that rescue operations continue with urgency and precision, to ensure no life is left behind.”

With survivors currently receiving medical attention and rescue operations ongoing, Hon. Faleke has called for community solidarity in this time of distress.

“This is a moment for compassion, unity, and support. Let us come together as a community to extend comfort to the bereaved and strength to the survivors.”

He further encouraged residents of Lagos and Nigerians at large to continue to offer prayers for the souls of the departed and the swift recovery of the injured.

Authorities are yet to provide the final casualty figures, but rescue teams remain at the scene, utilizing halogen lights to continue overnight debris clearance and recovery operations. At least 13 people have been rescued so far, while seven fatalities have been confirmed.

The cause of the building collapse remains under investigation.
