Herbalist Allegedly Kills 11-Year-Old, Removing His Eye in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a local herbalist, identified as Murtala Musa, for allegedly killing an 11-year-old boy and harvesting his left eye under the guise of administering traditional treatment.

The tragic incident occurred in Kodomun Village, Demsa Local Government Area, and was reported to the police on Sunday, April 13, 2025, by the Village Head of Kodomun and the mother of the deceased, Mrs. Fancy Alifas.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the mother, Mrs. Alifas, recounted that her son, Yangapwa David, had been taken to the herbalist for treatment. However, the child died while in Musa’s custody.

SP Nguroje further disclosed that arrangements were being made to convey the boy’s body home, and during that process, the remains were temporarily left in the herbalist’s room. To the mother’s horror, upon her return, she discovered that her son’s left eye had been removed.

This disturbing discovery prompted immediate action by the police, who swiftly mobilized to the scene and arrested the suspect.

“The suspect has been taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and detailed investigation,” Nguroje said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, has assured members of the public that the Command will ensure justice is served in this heartbreaking case. He reaffirmed the commitment of the police to protect the lives of all citizens and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and calls for stricter regulation and oversight of traditional healing practices in the region. Authorities have also reiterated the importance of seeking treatment from licensed medical practitioners to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
