Public Health and Security ConcernsJustice for Quadri

Lagos was thrown into shock as the body of 28-year-old Ogubode Quadri Adedamola — a graduate of Political Science Education from Lagos State University (LASU) and CEO of Horlar Edu Consultancy — was discovered buried near the premises of CCC Ileri Oluwa Parish, LASU 2.

Quadri, who was declared missing on January 16, 2025, was last heard from when he told his girlfriend over the phone that he was in front of the church and would call back later — a call that never came.

Following his disappearance, the Lagos State Police Command launched an investigation, during which the church’s leader, Superior Evangelist Whepetoji Babaniyeh, denied any knowledge of Quadri’s whereabouts. However, the case took a sinister turn when police obtained Quadri’s bank statements, revealing that ₦1.5 million had been transferred from his account on the day he went missing.

Shockingly, part of the money was traced to the bank accounts of the Shepherd himself, his daughter, and others linked to the church. Initially, Evangelist Babaniyeh claimed ignorance, but when confronted with evidence, he changed his story, alleging the money was for “Thanksgiving.”

The pressure of the ongoing investigation eventually led to a confession. Police uncovered Quadri’s lifeless body, buried under the church’s supervision. Even more disturbing, a gun and an axe were found hidden under the church’s altar — raising grave concerns about criminal activities masked by religious practices.

Public Health and Security Concerns

This tragic incident not only highlights the alarming intersection of faith and crime but also exposes a critical gap in public health and security systems.

Religious spaces, often seen as safe havens, are now under scrutiny. Experts are calling for stricter oversight of religious organizations, as well as community education about the need to worship God — not pastors, prophets, or shepherds.

Moreover, the psychological trauma inflicted on Quadri’s loved ones and the wider community cannot be overlooked. Mental health professionals stress the importance of counseling for those affected, while public safety advocates demand better policing strategies to detect and prevent crimes occurring under the guise of faith.

Justice for Quadri

As the investigation unfolds, the police have confirmed the detention of Sup. Evang. Whepetoji Babaniyeh and other suspects. The case has sparked outrage, with calls for swift justice and a re-evaluation of how religious organizations operate, particularly in the protection of vulnerable members of society.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that those responsible for Quadri’s murder will face the full weight of the law.

This harrowing story serves as a painful reminder to remain vigilant and to teach children the essence of true worship — faith in God, not blind allegiance to human figures.

May Ogubode Quadri Adedamola’s soul rest in peace.
