LASTMA Female Elite Corps Launches Yuletide Traffic Sensitization Campaign
The Female Elite Corps of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA has kicked off a week-long sensitization campaign to promote adherence to traffic regulations and orderly conduct among motorists during the festive season.
The campaign, themed “Drive Safe, Stay Safe,” commenced on Monday, December 2, 2024, and is aimed at enhancing road safety and mitigating traffic infractions before, during, and after the busy Yuletide period.
At the official launch, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, emphasized the Lagos State Government’s commitment to ensuring smooth vehicular movement across the metropolis. He noted that the Yuletide season, while celebratory, often brings an increase in road usage and potential challenges. “This campaign aims to reinforce motorists’ obligations to prioritize safety, thereby reducing accidents and traffic disruptions,” he stated.
The Female Elite Corps, a specialized team within LASTMA, will carry out the campaign through a variety of activities, including roadshows, community engagement sessions, and distribution of educational materials. Targeted locations include key traffic hotspots such as Ikeja, Surulere, Epe, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Agege, Lekki, Egbeda, Obalende, and Apapa.
Additionally, motorists and commuters will receive real-time updates and traffic compliance tips via LASTMA’s digital platforms to ensure seamless communication throughout the campaign.
The campaign highlights several critical traffic regulations, including:
– Strict observance of traffic signals and road signage,
– Avoidance of driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics,
– Adherence to lane discipline and prohibition of one-way driving, and
– Ensuring vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
Hon. Giwa urged motorists to cooperate fully with LASTMA officials and report traffic violations through the agency’s toll-free helpline, 080000527862. He encouraged road users to embrace responsible driving habits to create a safer and more harmonious environment for all residents and visitors in Lagos during the holiday season.
